Pizza and Pasta

Wednesday, August 23rd, 2006

Ryan and Jenn came over last night for dinner. We see them so infrequently anymore and it was great to relax for a while and catch up. Ordered take out from Monroe’s, mmmmm good.

Chatted about the group outtings we did several years back to Philly and to Baltimore and how it would be fun to do another. Tougher now because several of the couples have kids. Talked about a weekend in Richmond, Annapolis, Baltimore again and others. Also talked about resort destinations and how that might work out better for the kids, maybe Savage River Lodge (which is where Heather and I went for our 1st wedding anniversary.)

Look out world!

Brendan started walking yesterday! I went to pick him up at Salma’s house and he walked about 5 feet across the room to me. So of course we made him walk between Salma, Hinna and myself several dozen times before I’d let the poor kid take a break. He was so tired afterwards that he fell asleep before we even pulled out of the driveway.

I’m going to try to capture/post some video of him cruising around this week.

Interestingly, this is one of the rare situations where Fiona shows a lot of sibling jealousy. (That’s not the right word for it.) With all the excitement and attention surrounding Brendan she began to misbehave a bit and insert herself into the situation to get attention. I tried to praise her and include her in the activities by having Brendan walk to her and so forth. That helped some.

Donuts and Houses

Monday, August 21st, 2006

We took donuts and bagels over to Tim & Christine’s place Sunday morning. Was nice to hang out with them for a wile. Fiona had a great time running around the back yard with Ateles.

Their next-door neighbors are selling their home. It’s sort of strange looking from the outside do to a couple additions. The guy was home and nice enough to show us around the house. Wow, it’s pretty nice. Really nice kitchen, nice master suite and a spectatular great room addition off the back. Great laundry room in the finished basement with nice sink and folding table and lots of room. It’s not perfect, but sure would be a big step up for us. So we fantasized a bit about how nice it would be to live next to Tim and Christine. The neighborhood has tons of babies around Brendan’s and Fiona’s ages, which would make for a lot of fun for them as they grow up I think.

In the end though the place is probably too expensive. Also, we really love our current neighborhood and being able to walk to all the things in Del Ray. Ah well, it’s nice to think about such things. Maybe we’ll do an addition to our place at some point and we’ll have a nice kitchen for me and laundry room for Heather :-)

There was a nice dollhouse at the top of the steps in that house we looked at. (The owners are part-way through moving to their new home.) Fiona was fascinated with it – we had to tear her away. When I asked her if she wanted to live in that house she said yes – she wants to live in the house with the dolly house.

Reunion Recap

Monday, August 21st, 2006

The Mallone-Sanzotta reunion was a blast. Weather was beautiful, food was good and plentiful as always, fun was had. After some initial problems and disappointments I figured out how to correctly assemble the new kites and Fiona had a blast flying her new butterfly kite. The exchange student from Italy staying with Cathy, Dan and Emily was there as were a good sized group from the Youngstown side of the family.

The ride to and from Ohio was of course miserable. My tolerance for that drive is just getting smaller and smaller.

I have lots of pictures. Will hopefully get to posting them this weekend while Heather and the kids are in Ohio again and I have a bit of time for such things.

Heading to Ohio

Friday, August 11th, 2006

The annual Mallone/Sanzotta reunion is this weekend. So we’re loading up the kids and dogs and stuff in the big gas-guzzling SUV and trekking to the Buckeye State for the weekend. I actually don’t know if the reunion is sat or sun, guess we’ll find out.

I put together the butterfly kite for Fiona last night and she loved it. She wanted to try flying it but it was late and there was no wind. So she contented herself with holding it for several minutes. I hope there’s good weather for it this weekend sometime.

Uhg… I hate the drive to Ohio. 7-8 hours including stops for kids and dogs. Not really that long but we’ve done that drive so many times that it’s relentlessly monotonous now.

Kites C’est Arrivé

Thursday, August 10th, 2006

The kites I ordered got here today – way to go USPS! I opened one end of the box so I could slide out the kites and make sure they were the right ones and had string and so forth. Taped the box back up so Fiona can have the “out of box” experience at home this evening.

If either of them is decorative enough and sized appropriately we might hang them in her room for decoration when not being used.

Themes, themes, everywhere themes..

I’m working on finding a look that I like for this site. Several that I’m switching between right now. Some have images across the top (like the current one) and others don’t. I’ll need to work up an image of home or the kids or something for the top of this site. Ya, I’ll have time for that any day now :-)

Kite Update

Tuesday, August 8th, 2006

Looks like that kite order I mentioned a few posts ago didn’t go through for some reason. Found a better(?) site yesterday and asked Fiona which kites we should get. I thought she’d go for the clownfish (Nemo) kite right away, but she felt drawn to the Psychedelic Butterfly. Then she informed me that I should fly the Nemo kite and mommy should fly the shark kite. Hmmm… I wasn’t about to buy 3 kites, but since I had already told her a nemo kite was coming I ordered both the butterfly and the clownfish. Would be great if they arrived it time for family reunion this weekend, but as long as they’re in time for Fiona and I to fly them the weekend after I’ll be happy. Photos up at Kites Inc.

Wiffle and Bubbles

Tuesday, August 8th, 2006

Ging was in town for a few days and Steph and Walker hosted a shindig at their place on saturday to mark the occasion. Predictably, much wiffleball was had. Fiona had a blast playing with Allison and Justine and blowing lots of bubbles.

More photos here.

Hand Foot Mouth

Wednesday, August 2nd, 2006

Fiona came down with Hand Foot and Mouth disease Sunday night. It had been going around at preschool but thought we had dodged the bullet. She has a mild case of it except for the sores in her mouth which make eating and drinking painful. Poor kid, she was pretty miserable Monday and Tuesday. I begged Mom to come out for a few days and she rearranged her schedule to drive out Tuesday. Fiona ate a little better this morning, so hopefully we’ve rounded that corner. She still can’t go back to school until Monday at the earliest, so thank god Mom is here to help.
