Another Hosting Switch

Thursday, April 21st, 2005

I’m performing yet another switch of hosting providers. That mean that the photo gallery and maybe some other stuff will be down or wonky for the next few days (hopefully not that long.)

Maybe once this is done I can take some time to actually post messages and upload pictures instead of just working on the technical side of this site :-)

Hilton Head

Monday, April 4th, 2005

So we spent several days in Hilton Head with my folks last week. Our first day was overcast and a little windy, but we spent a lot of time down at the beach anyway. Fiona had a blast collecting shells and playing with her bucket and shovel. The second day was a rainout, but it was Easter so we had fun hiding Fiona’s easter basket and playing with her. The NCAA basketball tournament was on TV and heather and I picked up Love Actually and Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow from the local grocery and watched those. Monday was a little more beach time and dinner with Dan, Cathy, Emily and her friend Jessica who had all just arrived for the week.

Mom and Fiona had a great time with a little plastic tricycle that mom and dad had brought down for her. It’s one of those that she scoots with her feet rather than having pedals. Fiona learned pretty well how to get around. She had a blast picking up pinecones and collecting them in the little trunk on the scooter.

Pictures will be up at some point, I have a virtual stack of picts from the last several months that need to be posted.

First Plane Flight

Monday, April 4th, 2005

So last friday (March 25) was a big day. In addition to Fiona’s getting glasses for the first time she also flew on a plane for the first time. After we boarded they announced that takeoff would be delayed 20 min or so because some folk were on a connecting flight that hadn’t arrived yet. This was sortof annoying, but the stewardess was so apologetic and offered up so many free snacks and drinks (including beer and wine) that nobody seemed to mind too much. Kudos to Independence Air for turning a potentially aggravating situation into one that makes us want to fly with them again.

Anyway, we ended up spending about 2 hours on the plane and Fiona was a darling. She didn’t seem phased at all by takeoff and landing, she didn’t complain about her ears hurting at all and we was generally pretty easy to keep entertained.

The flight back on Tuesday was a little tougher. She was looking out the window during takeoff and was a little frightened. She clung to me but didn’t make any noise and was fine just moments after we left ground. For some reason she was a little more restless and much harder to keep entertained. We took several walks up and down the aisle and tried all the books and snacks we had. Altogether though she was pretty good on the return flight too and we really shouldn’t complain at all.

So last friday, the same day we flew out to Hilton Head, Fiona and I went to the opticians here in Old Town to pick up her glasses. It went much better than I expected. The trick is to bribe her with a cracker or something else she wants. She doesn’t really like having them on, but will tolerate them for a while.

I used this ancient technology called “the Yellow Pages” to choose this optician. Basically I picked them because there were nearby and weren’t some big chain. We couldn’t be happier with this place. They are Brahm & Powell Guild Opticians. The folks there were very patient with a sometimes uncooperative Fiona and had a good selection of frames for toddlers. I’ve been in there several times now for various things and I can’t recommend them highly enough.
