Nursery Painting

Wednesday, August 13th, 2003

Mom and Dad Callahan were in town this weekend to help us paint the nursery and get some other things done. Heather and I picked out this great pale yellow color which of course turned out to be not-so-pale once it was up on the walls. Oh well, it still looks pretty good. Dad and I did the painting Saturday, then Dad did all the trim that evening while I was out with Mark. Mom and Heather washed all the baby clothes we’ve received and other organization stuff like that. The three of them also spread some pine bark chips around the plantings in the front yard which spruced the place up a lot.

Nusery is looking pretty good. We still may or may not put up a border around the walls. We have one that matched the bedding/etc but I don’t think I like the border much. Will still need a dresser/changing table. We’re hoping to find a nice antique dresser to also use as a changing table. So far we’ve seen a few interesting items at the local shops but nothing we are crazy about. More looking this weekend.

Mindy & Manish’s wedding two weekends ago was awesome. So much to write about and so little time at the moment to write. Friday was a dinner at one of the hotels, then some of the guys headed over to catch part of a Lake County Captians (class A minor league baseball) game.

Christian ceremony was Saturday at the Episcopal church in Geneva. Cute little church. Mindy just radiated bridal beauty and joy all day. Cookies and punch in the church hall afterwards. Incredible cookie layout – some from the bakery but the best ones from Aunt Cathy and Emily (the knotted, iced, anise cookies that Nona (Great Grandma Sanzotta) used to make.

Budhist ceremony was Sunday at the Croation Community Hall in Eastlake. All kinds of interesting ceremony as Manish and his entourage processed from the parking lot to the door of the hall. There he we met by Mom and the priest where he was ritually greeted and welcomed into the bride’s family’s home. Inside both families were seated up on the stage with Mindy, Manish, the parents and the priest center stage. Interesting ceremony that involved a lot of interaction with parents and other family members and friends.

Afterwards there were hors d’oeuvres in the entrance hall while the main hall was made ready for the reception. Reception was great – all kinds of Italian, Indian and Croation food. Huge, beatuful centerpieces at the tables. Manish’s sister performed some traditional Indian dances. Later she instructed everybody how to dance the Stick Dance (there is some actual better name I think) which was load of fun. Later cousins Duke and Betsy directed the traditional Italian Grande Marche around the hall which was great fun. I think I had more fun that day than at any other wedding/reception I’ve ever been to.

Sunday morning Mindy and Manish opened gifts at The Lodge while a small audience watched, ate breakfast, help get rid of extra cookies and so forth.

Pictures are in the photo albums here.
